Shadows of Life

She knew the way to the hearts of men, yet she found no man worthy of her heart. We held hands when she was sleepy and told stories to each other through the whispers of the trees. Our souls and minds were alike as they skipped together through the pages of life, but the journey held no happiness for us. Footsteps in the snow led me to her resting body, the clouds were full with tears that froze before they touched the Earth. The water welling in my eyes refused to kiss my cheeks, instead playing hide and seek between my eyelashes awaiting the moment that I was alone....
